Our colleague, Dr Eszter Kovács, the leader of our Health Workforce Planning Knowledge Centre, participated at the EHMA Care Summit 2025 in Brussels on 3-4 December 2025. The Summit was dedicated to building a Roadmap for a Stronger European Health Union. The experts discussed the strategic goals of the EU: competitiveness, resilience, sustainability, and social cohesion with stakeholders from health, academia, civil society, EU institutions, and sectors including agriculture, defence, environment, energy, and industry.

She presented health workforce challenges in the borderless world, including patient and health professional mobility, quality and access to care, and the upskilling needs of the labour market. She also emphasised the importance of technical expertise and utilising tangible tools, such as health workforce planning, in fostering system resilience and reaching higher levels of preparedness. Additionally, the latest good practices from the HEROES Joint Action project were summarised.

Member States in HEROES are making significant progress towards achieving a more advanced maturity level of planning systems, both from technical and policy perspectives.
