One of the most beautiful concert halls in Hungary, with wonderful melodies, excellent musicians, and a good cause.

Last Friday, the Semmelweis University Medic Orchestra gave a very successful, sold-out charity concert at the Liszt Academy. All the proceeds from the concert, more than HUF 4 million, will go towards the purchase of an MRI machine for the university’s Pediatric Center. The machine will enable up to 300 children per month to be examined in a high-quality and painless manner. Thank you for your support from the bottom of our hearts!
Conductor Gergely Dubóczky and the orchestra also tried to please the audience with the final dry run, with special little guests from the András Pető Elementary Training School and Institution of Conductive Methodology as well as the Pediatric Center coming to take a peek behind the scenes in the final hours of preparation. Around 50 children had an unforgettable experience, but the musicians were just as happy to see the attentive, happy faces.

Last week, an outdoor fitness park was opened with a ribbon cutting by university leaders and representatives of the Students' Union in the courtyard of the Balassa János Dormitory. The fitness installation was built in cooperation with the Green University Project, coordinated by the Students' Union, who, in addition to providing financial support, were also involved in the initial planning. New motion-sensor solar lamps have also been installed around the park. The investment turned the former concrete surface into a sporting area, where students can do bodyweight workouts without further equipment.
Representing the Tight Hold bodyweight training system, Mátyás Jokhel and his three teammates gave an impressive presentation to the audience.
The university aims to provide as many sports & recreation opportunities as possible, so the installation works of a new fitness park are scheduled to begin in the Markusovszky Dormitory in January.

For the first time, the Semmelweis Simulation Cent

For the first time, the Semmelweis Simulation Center hosted an ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) course, which ensures the care of seriously injured patients based on a protocol and curriculum standardized in 40 countries. The training program has been available in Hungary since 2006, and it was the 52nd occasion that the theoretical and practical course held in mid-October was offered in Budapest. On the closing day of the program, we accompanied the instructors behind the scenes and the students through the key stages of the final examination required to qualify as an orthopedic traumatologist.

At 6:00 a.m., an experienced and well-knit team is unpacking into the rooms of the Semmelweis Simulation Center in Ernő Street. They are equipping four rooms of the hospital's trauma care unit with the necessary tools to treat four different cases. The briefing of the ‘victims’, who are also experienced in acting out the symptoms of each medical condition, has also started. This year, Semmelweis University has hosted the ATLS course for the first time, which is compiled, supervised, and updated every four years by the American College of Surgeons, says Dr. Tamás Bodzay, Director of the Department of Traumatology and President of the Hungarian Society for Traumatology, which supervises the training in Hungary.

Dr. Klaudia Vivien Nagy of Semmelweis University becomes Hungary's first ESA-certified flight surgeon! 👩‍⚕️🪐🚀💙🤍

The Assistant Professor at Semmelweis University's Heart and Vascular Center, was the first in Hungary to complete the European Space Agency's (ESA) accredited space medicine training, thus becoming the first person from Hungary whom the ESA certified to practice space medicine in support of European astronauts, including Tibor Kapu, who is scheduled to go to space in 2025. Semmelweis University has taken an active role in the HUNOR (Hungarian to Orbit) Astronaut Program, providing medical background, which involves the medical selection and training of astronauts and monitoring their health.

For certain types of technically complex surgical

For certain types of technically complex surgical procedures involving the liver and pancreas, open abdominal surgery, which is more stressful for the patient, can be replaced by the use of a robot in the Da Vinci Surgical System. Also, in colorectal surgery, the sphincter is more likely to be saved for tumors close to it, which has a clear impact on quality of life. Trained specialists at the Department of Surgery, Transplantation and Gastroenterology (STéG) use the robot-assisted surgical system for colon, liver, pancreas, and biliary tract surgery and have already completed 350 procedures. “In each area, we have found the conditions and types of surgery where we can best exploit the benefits of the robot,” said Dr. Attila Szijártó, Director of STéG.
