What is the purpose of an occupational health assessment?
The purpose of an occupational health assessment is to determine whether the employee or student undergoing the assessment is suffering from any health conditions that would rule out medical or healthcare practice placement in their field; whether their health condition enables them to practise the medical activity relevant to their position; whether, due to their physical or mental condition, they are temporarily or permanently unable to perform medical duties; or whether they have a limited ability to perform medical duties as a result of their health condition.
The right to perform medical duties is granted exclusively to those who mentally and physically are able and fit to carry out the given medical duties.
Freshmen are required to undergo a preliminary medical fitness test before starting their medical activity and then periodic fitness tests at a frequency determined by the healthcare provider (at least once a year).
Where does the occupational health assessment take place?
Occupational health assessments are performed by Semmelweis University Occupational Health Service, at 2 Gyulai Pál utca, 1085 Budapest.
Enter through the main entrance, turn right into the corridor, go straight, then take the stairs on the left to the 2nd floor.
In case of change in location, you will be notified via e-mail following appointment booking.
How can I register for occupational health assessment?
Students can register for assessment via our website developed for this purpose: https://aptitude.semmelweis.hu
Available appointment slots, as determined by the Occupational Health Service, are continuously updated.
Of course, sometimes there may be no available appointments (all booked), so it is not possible to book an appointment. When planning your practice, it is a good idea to check the dates of the aptitude test in advance and book the necessary appointment in good time. The FESZ is not able to provide an out-of-schedule appointment due to the start date of your practice.
You can also set up an appointment monitor so that if new appointments appear or someone cancels an appointment and it becomes available, you will be notified.
A tutorial document is available to help you make an appointment.
What happens during the occupational health assessment?
Please bring your student ID card, passport or driving licence to prove your identity, and your health record booklet if you already possess one.
During the occupational health assessment, you will need to present certain documents and medical findings. These documentations are checked by the occupational health physician, who will take the necessary steps based on the results. Basic physical examination may also take place.
Where can I take the examinations necessary for occupational health assessment?
Both freshmen and students in the upper years (active student status necessary) are able to apply for the necessary preliminary examinations through the APTITUDE system, which is free of charge.
It is also possible to have the examinations carried out by an external service provider, subject to the following conditions:
- English/German/Hungarian language only
- must be dated, stamped and signed by a medical professional
- printed
- chest X-ray within 365 days, full blood count within 180 days
Can I get help with filling in the documentation?
The documents are available in Hungarian, English and German via the APTITUDE website and need to be filled in as necessary. The documents are also available on the Registrar’s website. You can also fill in the forms abroad (GP declaration; specialist medical opinion if required), which must be presented at the aptitude test.
If you are unable to complete these forms abroad, you can obtain assistance for a fee by calling 061/465 3784.
Is it necessary to take a Hepatitis B test during my studies?
Students admitted to the University must present their Anti HBs AB and HBs Ag serology test findings, together with their childhood vaccination records, after which they need not take the test again during their studies. (Except in the case of a needle stick injury, where the training site will take the necessary steps.) Depending on the results of the findings, the occupational health physician will act in accordance with the methodological letter.
How often do I have to take a Hepatitis C (HCV) screening test?
In the case of the students of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the test is valid for 10 years. However, the students of the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Dentistry may perform invasive interventions, therefore they need to take the HCV screening test every 5 years.
What should I do if vaccination is necessary?
If the occupational health assessment confirms the necessity of vaccination, the occupational health physician will tell you what to do.
International students need to pay a fee for vaccination. They can make appointments by calling 061/465 3784.
I am an upper-year student. I can make appointments for the necessary medical tests via the system. Where do the tests take place?
The medical tests are performed at various University locations. Exact information and addresses relevant to the appointment are available on the appointment website.
How can I obtain my Healthcare Records booklet?
It will be provided by the Occupational Health Service during your first appointment if everything is found in order. You will need to preserve the booklet until the end of your studies and to always bring it to your occupational health assessment and bedside practice.
You must keep the booklet until the end of your studies and take it with you to all occupational health examinations and bedside trainings.
Who will handle my certificate of the assessment?
The occupational health assessment report will be included in your Health Records booklet, which must be presented, upon request, at the Dean’s Office and the training site.
How can I cancel or change my appointment?
Appointments cannot be rescheduled but they can be canceled. If you are unable to attend a fixed appointment, please cancel it first, and then make a new booking.
How long is my aptitude test valid?
The certificate of fitness, which is certified in the Health Booklet, is normally valid for 365 days. In view of this, it is only necessary to register for the next medical examination before the expiry of the certificate. You can register up to 120 days before the expiry date, if your certificate is still valid for several months, there is no reason to register and take appointments from those who need it. If you receive a certificate with a time limit, the doctor will indicate this.
It is also advisable to time your tests so that they are valid for the eligibility test (chest X-ray 365 days, major routine 180 days).
Do I need other tests during my paediatric, obstetric/gynaecological practice?
Yes, the law requires a stool bacteriology and vdrl test. For some courses and years, students can book their own appointment for the test via the APTITUDE system. If the student is unable to do so, but is recommended by the doctor, the doctor/assistant can authorise the admission of the examinee.
Otherwise, you can email titkarsag.foglalkozasegeszsegugy@semmelweis.hu
If the student has a valid “fit” note within 365 days and is on a paediatric or obstetrics/gynaecology placement within that time, they do not need to return for a “fit” note with a negative result, they only need to present it to the placement supervisor at the placement. These test results are valid for 30 days, i.e. you must have the results within 30 days before you can start your traineeship.
How do I access my examination results?
APTIDUDE is an appointment booking system only. Findings and examination results are not uploaded to the system. When you attend an examination, you should ask the administrator (Institute of Laboratory Medicine /Laboratory/, Medical Imaging Clinic /Mammography/) to check that your e-mail address is correctly recorded in the patient information system and that automatic sending of the findings is set up. In this case, the report will be sent to the e-mail address you have entered. If the tests are carried out via Semmelweis University, it is not necessary to print the findings for the occupational health examination.
