More than one thousand five hundred students received their diplomas at Semmelweis University’s graduation ceremonies at the end of the academic year 2021/22. The overall mission of the university is to provide its students with world-class professional knowledge as well as moral principles and human values, which will equip them to become not only excellent professionals, but also precious humans willing to sacrifice over the years. Recent graduates have excelled in this area as well, said Rector Dr. Béla Merkely at the Faculty of Medicine’s graduation ceremony.

At Semmelweis University’s Faculty of Medicine, 291 Hungarian-speaking, 131 English-speaking and 125 German-speaking students were awarded doctorates at a ceremony held in Papp László Sports Arena. Following the oath, Dr. Béla Merkely, Rector, and Dr. Miklós Kellermayer, Dean, welcomed the newly graduated students as doctors. Finally, János Csák, Minister of Culture and Innovation, delivered a speech at the event.

At the graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Pharmacy, 120 students received their diplomas, 93 of them in Hungarian, 20 in English and 7 in German. At the ceremony held in Madách Theatre, Rector Dr. Béla Merkely, Deputy State Secretary for Higher Education Dr. Balázs Hankó and Dean Dr. István Antal welcomed the graduates.

At the graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Dentistry (FOK), 129 dental students received their diplomas at Madách Theatre. 35 summa cum laude, 93 cum laude and 1 rite degrees were awarded, including 31 students in English and 10 in German. Dr. Péter Hermann, Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs and Dr. Gábor Gerber, Dean of the Faculty, shook hands and conferred the degrees.

Ninety-one students of the Mental Hygiene specialisation of the Faculty of Public Health (EKK) received their diplomas from Dr. Beáta Pethesné Dávid, Director of the Institute of Mental Health, in the Ceremonial Hall of the Theoretical Block (NET) at Nagyvárad Square.

The Faculty of Public Health’s (EKK) Institute of Mental Health also held a joint graduation ceremony for graduates of five of its courses – Social Work MSc, Lactation Counselling, Integrated Parent-Infant Counselling, Community and Family Mediation and Interactive Life Path Counselling for Older Adults specialized further trainings. Nearly 150 new graduates received their diplomas from Dr. Beáta Pethesné Dávid, Director of the Institute, in the Ceremonial Hall of the Theoretical Block at Nagyvárad Square.

At another ceremony in the Theoretical Block at Nagyvárad Square, 79 conductors received their diplomas, six of who graduated with distinction. The event also included the presentation of diplomas to students who have completed cross-border training. At the inauguration and graduation ceremony of the András Pető Faculty (PAK), Dr. Miklósné Tenk Dr. Andrea Zsebe, Dean of the Faculty and Dr. Éva Feketéné Szabó, Vice-Rector for Strategy and Development, presented the diplomas and welcomed the graduating students.

Of the more than 500 students who graduated from Semmelweis University’s Faculty of Health Sciences this year, 387 health professionals, including 20 English language graduates, received their diplomas in person at the ceremonial Senate meeting held in the Congress Centre. Following the oath, the newly graduated candidates were presented with their diplomas by Rector Dr. Béla Merkely and Dean Dr. Gabriella Dörnyei.
