About of the Program

The scholarship program is managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and co-ordinated by Tempus Public Foundation. The program is based on bilateral educational cooperation agreements signed between the Ministries responsible for education in the sending countries. Currently, more than 90 sending partners are engaged in the program. Applicants are offered full degree or partial study programs at all degree levels, including part-time and doctoral programs.

Who can apply?

The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Program is open to applicants who meet the following criteria:

  • Citizens of eligible countries with a valid nomination from the national authorities responsible for higher education.

  • Applicants who meet the entry requirements of the selected study program and Hungarian host institution.

  • Candidates with the required language proficiency, as specified by the university.

How to apply?

All applications shall be submitted through the online application system of Tempus Public Foundation (TPF).

Application timeline:

  1. November – January: Application period. The scholarship application is completed on the Tempus Public Foundation’s application platform.

  2. January-February: Technical checks by TPF and nominations by sending country. 

  3. March-May: Semmelweis University admission procedure. Please find the details of the procedure under the Semmelweis admission page.

  4. June-July: Notification about results.

Provisions covered by the scholarship

  • Tuition-free education: exemption from the payment of tuition fee.
  • Monthly stipend
    • Non-degree, bachelor’s, master’s one-tier master’s level:
      HUF 43,700 / month
    • Doctoral level program:
      HUF 140,000/month for the first phase of education (4 semesters)
      HUF 180,000/month for the second phase of education (4 semesters)
  • Accommodation contribution: dormitory placement OR a monthly contribution of HUF 40 000 to accommodation costs for the whole duration of the scholarship period.
  • Medical insurance

The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Program financially contributes to the tuition fees and living expenses of the scholarship holder. However, it does not fully cover all the costs of living and the students need to add their own financial resources in order to cover all living expenses in Hungary. All applicants are highly advised to check the expected living expenses both in Hungary and in the city that they wish to live in before applying. Check out the Cost of Living Calculator!

All Scholarship Holders are bound by the Operational Regulations of the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Program. We encourage regular review of the Operational Regulations, to stay informed of any changes that might affect the scholarship holder status.
