The focus of the Budapest International Shoulder Course 2023 was on the modern diagnostics and treatment of rotator cuff tears.
“The event was organized by the Department of Orthopaedics at Semmelweis University on 18 February 2023 at the 1st Department of Pathology and Experimental Cancer Research,” Dr. Gábor Skaliczki, Associate Professor, Deputy Clinical Director of the Department of Orthopedics, President Elect of the Hungarian Orthopaedic Association, SECEC National Delegate for Hungary, main organizer of the course said.
The teaching team consisted partly of members of the Education Committee of the European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and the Elbow (SECEC) and partly of renowned national experts.
The course was attended by 24 professionals interested in shoulder surgery, who were able to listen to lectures on current issues in rotator cuff care.
The event also included workshops, where participants had the opportunity to learn how to perform a patient examination, ultrasound examination or how to evaluate an MRI, as well as the process of making a correct diagnosis and surgical plan by examining patients awaiting surgery. They had ample opportunity to practice arthroscopic techniques in the cadaver lab.
As Dr. Gábor Skaliczki emphasized, in the autopsy room, the practical learning of the techniques was carried out in separate stations, using the most modern arthroscopic instruments. “Both the students and the national and foreign instructors considered the course to be very successful, and we would like to organize it again in 2024,” the deputy director pointed out.
