The gifts and donations for healthcare workers collected by Radnóti Theatre were presented to rector dr. Béla Merkely by Adél Kováts (director of Radnóti Theatre)  in the courtyard of the Outer Clinical Block. The theatre’s actors gave a short musical performance thanking healthcare workers for their efforts during the pandemic.

During the event in the Outer Clinical Block, Adél Kováts (executive director), Sarolta Schaffler (head of marketing and communication) and a few actors handed over different gifts as their gratitude to the healthcare workers.

We would like to express our solidarity, you all have our utmost support! We would like to thank our healthcare workers for the tremendous effort since last year and for everything they have done for us and the Hungarian society.

– said director Adél Kováts.

She also added: I hope that we will be able to meet all of you again in the theatres – under “normalized”, pre-pandemic conditions. Under the programme “eTheatre” Semmelweis University’s healthcare workers received a donation of 50 online theatre tickets, tickets for an online guided tour of the Museum of Fine Arts and book sets selected by the Hungarian book company Líra. Adél Kovács also emphasized that Radnóti Theatre’s audience also made a good number of donations and prepared gifts, which were also handed out to Semmelweis healthcare workers. The event ended with a brief musical performance. Actors of Radnóti performed the famous Hungarian folk song “Tavaszi szél” and 3 songs from their play entitled “10” to the Outer Clinical Block staff.

Semmelweis University was represented by rector dr. Béla Merkely, dr. Attila Szabó (vice-rector for clinical affairs) and Dr. Pál Maurovich-Horvat (director of Medical Imaging Centre). Dr. Béla Merkely expressed his gratitude for the performance and donations. He mentioned that the Outer Clinical Block played a major role in the fight against COVID: most of the infected and intensive care patients were treated here.

As we were very busy last year, we have been missing out on a lot of intellectual performances, like the one we have just experienced.

– added the rector.
