Dr. Andrea Fekete, Associate Professor of the 1st Department of Pediatrics at Semmelweis University has been awarded with one of the most prestigious recognition of the civil society, which is awarded to the recipients due to their outstanding achievements based on innovation.

The Gábor Dénes Award, which was established by NOVOFER Foundation in 1989, was awarded to the recipients for the 32nd time this year. The award aims at acknowledging outstanding achievements of innovation based on technological-intellectual creations, engineering work and technological development. Dr. Andrea Fekete, researcher and pediatrician, associate professor of the 1st Department of Pediatrics at Semmelweis University, executive director and co-founder of SigmaDrugs biotech is among the awardees of the prize this year. The recognition was awarded to Dr. Andrea Fekete due to her merits regarding the description of multi-organ complications caused by diabetes and the discovery of new therapeutic opportunities, as well as the identification of new target molecules and biological defense mechanisms in the treatment of fibrotic tissues. As a result of the research, phase 2 of the clinical trials was started in November, in the framework of which hospitalized COVID-19 patients of moderate health condition are provided with fluvoxamine therapy.

The award ceremony is traditionally held in December at the Parliament, but this year’s ceremony, due to the current epidemiological situation was postponed to next year. However, the publication about the Gábor Dénes Award can be downloaded from the official web site and can be read digitally.
