A Bolyai Research Scholarship was awarded to 13 employees of Semmelweis University, and 4 university research fellows. Those who had already received the scholarship received a Bolyai memorial plate in recognition of their achievements accomplished in the framework of the scholarship. The János Bolyai Research Scholarship of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences was granted to the awardees by Dr. Tamás Freund, President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and Dr. Tivadar Tulassay, Rector Emeritus of Semmelweis University, President of the Board of Trustees of János Bolyai Research Scholarship during a private, online, broadcasted ceremony because of the current epidemiological situation. The call for application was advertised for the 24th time and out of the 783 submitted works 163 young researchers will be supported by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
The members of the Board of Trustees of the János Bolyai Research Scholarship have granted the Bolyai Scholarship for the 24th time this year, which was awarded to 163 researchers out of the 783 applicants. Among the successful applicants there are 13 researchers of Semmelweis University. With this award, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences aims to facilitate the predictability of the young researchers’ scientific career, the cooperation between different generations, the achievement-oriented training of young researchers as well as to encourage them to stay in Hungary, and last but not least to preparation for the Doctor of Science title.
The awardees of the János Bolyai Research Scholarship at Semmelweis University are: dr. Ádám Bartók, research fellow at the Department of Biochemistry; dr. Anikó Gál, senior lecturer at the Institute of Genomic Medicine and Rare Disorders; dr. Ágnes Katalin Jermendy, senior lecturer at the 1st Department of Pediatrics; dr. Attila Kovács and dr. Annamária Kosztin, senior lecturers at the Heart and Vascular Centre; dr. Gábor Kökény, associate professor at the Institute for Translational Medicine; dr. Márton Ákos Lőrincz, research fellow at the Department of Physiology; dr. Tamás Németh, senior lecturer at the Department of Physiology; dr. Tibor Szarvas, research fellow at the Department of Urology; dr. Ádám Domonkos Tárnoki and dr. Dávid László Tárnoki, associate professors at the Department of Radiology Medical Imaging Center; dr. Zoltán Wiener, associate professor at the Department of Genetics, Cell and Immunobiology; and dr. Ferenc Zádor, research fellow at the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy.
Those prominent researchers, who had already been granted with this scholarship and who submitted the most outstanding reports about their research in the framework of the scholarship, are traditionally awarded a Bolyai Plaque and a memorial plate. Out of the 184 fellows who had submitted their final report regarding their research, 14 researchers received a Bolyai Plaque. In the meantime, 80 researchers were awarded with a Bolyai memorial plate, including 4 awardees representing Semmelweis University: dr. Katalin Dezső, associate professor at the 1st Department of Pathology and Experimental Cancer Research; dr. Éva Kereszturi, senior lecturer at the Department of Molecular Biology; dr. Anikó Ilona Nagy, senior lecturer at the Heart and Vascular Centre; and dr. Tibor Szarvas, senior research fellow at the Department of Urology.
“The scholarship, which was established in 1996, has become the significant stage of the research career for many young researchers in the previous two and a half decades. It means a lot more than a simple financial support. This scholarship is type of a quality insurance, it serves as a bridge that connects the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the Doctors of Science of the Academy as well as the members of the young researcher generation who already acquired the PhD degree”, said Dr. Tamás Freund, President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
The Bolyai Plaque and memorial plate were awarded to the awardees by the president and Dr. Tivadar Tulassay, Rector Emeritus of Semmelweis University, President of the Board of Trustees of János Bolyai Research Scholarship in the framework of an online ceremony.
