Semmelweis University placed 41st in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) ranking, which is based partly on student surveys and partly on data and statistics provided by universities. The Europe Teaching Rankings 2019 list contains a total of 258 European universities, including four from Hungary.
The ranking is based on four pillars: student opinions (engagement, recommendations), resources required for learning (staff-to-student ratio, papers-to-staff ratio), delivering successful outcomes for students (graduation rate, academic reputation), and learning environment (gender balance, proportion of international and Erasmus+ students). Semmelweis University scored highest in the latter category.
Among Hungarian higher education institutions, Semmelweis ranked the highest (41st position), while the Szent István University was ranked 126-150, and the University of Debrecen and the Eötvös Loránd University both ranked in positions 151-200. The ranking list, which was started in 2018 as a pilot project, is topped by the University of Oxford.
