Semmelweis University ranks 67th in the Times Higher Education (THE) Emerging Economies University Rankings 2019; it is ranked highest among the seven Hungarian universities on the list.
Traditionally, the ranking is based on the education environment, the quality of research, the number of citations related to the institution, and industrial incomes, as well as the number of international lecturers and students. The characteristics and development priorities of universities in emerging countries are also taken into consideration, such as industry relations and international perspectives.
The list includes 442 universities in 43 countries, and Chinese higher education institutions (Tsinghua University, Peking University, Zhejiang University) rank the highest. Among the Hungarian universities, Semmelweis ranks top with its 67th place, Eötvös Loránd University is 119th, the University of Pécs is 141st, and the University of Szeged is 162nd. The University of Debrecen is in the range of 201-250, the Budapest University of Technology and Economics in the range of 251-300, and Corvinus University of Budapest is ranked in the range of 301 to 350.
