Wang Guoqiang, Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Health and Deputy Director of the National Health and Family Planning Commission in China, has recently been awarded Pro Universitate by Semmelweis University on the basis of the decision proposed by the Faculty of Health Sciences.
“It is an honour that Vice-Minister Wang Guoqiang visited Semmelweis University during his official program in Hungary, which clearly proves the importance of Chinese-Hungarian educational relations. Semmelweis University hopes that the negotiations with the Faculty of Health Sciences will serve as a strong basis for the further reinforcement of Chinese-Hungarian cooperation in the field of education and research. We are proud of our Chinese relations and we truly hope that this cooperation will remain successful in the future.”, said Dr. György Bagdy, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs in his opening speech.
Semmelweis University has always considered Chinese relations of utmost importance, which is a significant part of the institution’s international strategy. Currently there are 13 Chinese students enrolled in our full time programs at Semmelweis University.
In his introduction Vice-Rector Bagdy mentioned several examples for the cooperation between Chinese partners and Semmelweis University. He said that one of the most important Chinese relations is with Heilongjiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, on the basis of which the Traditional Chinese Medicine training programme of the Faculty of Health Sciences was initiated in 2010. During the programme, four years out of five are spent at Semmelweis University, and the fifth year is completed in China. Graduating students receive the BSc degree of the Chinese university.
During the ceremony, Dr. Zoltán Zsolt Nagy, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences outlined the most important milestones of Dr. Wang Guoqiang’s professional career. “We are proud to hand over Semmelweis University’s most prestigious award to Dr. Wang Guoqiang, who has greatly contributed to the promotion of traditional Chinese medicine in Hungary and abroad, and to the development of the Chinese health services in areas like maternity, child health and family planning. Dr. Wang also holds the position of Secretary of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the programmes related to traditional Chinese medicine in China and in the Central-Eastern European region within the framework of international cooperations. This was the official reason for his visit at Semmelweis University’s Faculty of Health Sciences.”, expressed Dean Nagy.
After being awarded with Pro Universitate, Dr. Wang Guoqiang expressed his appreciation towards Semmelweis University. “This is a prestigious institute of a long past and great traditions, and the cooperation with Semmelweis University would show a good example to other European countries, too. I am honoured to receive Pro Universitate, which was not only awarded to me personally but also for the Hungarian-Chinese relations.”, said Dr. Wang.
