Based on the excellence of lecturers and students, Semmelweis University ranked No. 1 among Hungarian universities and colleges. Second is Eötvös Loránd University followed by the University of Szeged and the University of Pécs. (See the top ten universities in Hungary here.)

hallgatók1While setting up the overall ranking several factors were taken into account, such as the number of students applying for full time or single long cycle programmes, the average score of admitted students, the average number of admitted students holding language certificates of level B2 or C1, the number of undergraduates having exceptional results from academic secondary school competitions, the number and the ratio of lecturers holding academic degrees, the ratio of lecturers holding academic degree and students of full time programmes and the ratio of lecturers possessing titles given by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

There have not been significant changes regarding the ranking of students compared to last year. The number of applications for Corvinus University and Eötvös Loránd University outnumbered the previous year’s by almost a thousand, and by 500-800 for Budapest University of Technology and Economics, University of Szeged and Semmelweis University. Semmelweis University claims the fourth position based on student excellence.
With respect to the lecturers’ ranking there have been more changes. On the basis of the publication the proportion of lecturers holding academic degrees has significantly improved in case of Semmelweis University and the University of Pécs. The number of lecturers with academic degrees has increased by 148 at Semmelweis University’s Faculty of Medicine and by 180 all together at the university.

Klinikai kutatásThe overall list of faculties is headed by Semmelweis University’s Faculty of Medicine, which came second regarding student excellence and third with respect to the lecturers’ ranking. Semmelweis University’s Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences came 15th among 154 faculties.
In the field of medical and health sciences training Semmelweis University’s Faculty of Medicine occupies the first place as well. The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences came fourth and the Faculty of Health and Public Administration came eight in the ranking of their respective fields but came first in the field of health services management. The thirteenth place is occupied by the Faculty of Dentistry, and the Faculty of Health Sciences came fifteenth in the overall ranking, which is also the first in the catregory of nursing.

Semmelweis University’s Faculty of Medicine had the highest threshold scores in medical education and this faculty attracted the most students with exceptional results in secondary school academic competition. This faculty employs the highest number of lecturers with academic degrees as well.
