Adrienne Farkas, a journalist for the Hungarian daily Magyar Nemzet was chosen as the first recipient of the newly created Semmelweis Media Award for her article “Like the saints: living with an anorexic is not an easy thing” [“Mint a szentek, Egy anorexiással együtt élni nem könnyű dolog”]. With the help of child psychiatrist Dr. Bea Pászthy (1st Department of Paediatrics, Semmelweis University), Farkas uses literary devices to describe the novel fairytale therapy approach in the treatment of anorexia nervosa.
The Semmelweis Media Award was established in 2010 to recognise outstanding performance in health and science-related journalism and public awareness communications.
The award will be officially presented during the Semmelweis Day celebrations on June 30.
