Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the most dangerous infectious diseases worldwide, affecting millions of people each year. On the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day, the Dept. of Pulmonology at Semmelweis University places special emphasis on the prevention, early detection, and treatment of the disease, as proper awareness and knowledge can save lives. Although the incidence of TB infection is fortunately relatively low in Hungary, the number of non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections is steadily increasing. These infections occur most frequently in individuals with various forms of immunodeficiency.
