The 13-week program, which took place from June 22 to September 18, brought together eight fourth-year undergraduate medical students from Hebei Medical University who were preparing to enter their fifth year of medical studies. They were accompanied by Dr. Kong Dexian, Associate Chief Physician at the Department of Endocrinology of the First Hospital of Hebei Medical University.
Throughout the program, the students rotated through several clinical departments at Semmelweis University, allowing them to gain a broad perspective on different areas of patient care. Their training included surgical and internal medicine specialties as well as emergency care and other fields, with students following rotation schedules tailored to their individual areas of interest.
A central component of the program was the students’ clinical rotation at the Department of Surgery, Transplantation and Gastroenterology (STéG), where all eight participants gained experience over different periods of the program. Further rotations provided exposure to pulmonology, emergency medicine, neurology, orthopedic surgery, and obstetrics and gynecology. This structure enabled students to move beyond a single clinical specialty and observe different approaches to diagnosis, treatment, and patient care. By spending several weeks within individual departments, they had the opportunity to become familiar with clinical workflows and the day-to-day professional environment of a university hospital.
In parallel with the student program, Dr. Kong Dexian followed an individual professional program reflecting his clinical background and professional interests. Her 13-week schedule included rotations at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Urology Clinic, Diabetology, and the Department of Internal Medicine.
The three-month internship also provided an opportunity to strengthen academic and professional connections between Semmelweis University and Hebei Medical University. By bringing medical students and a senior clinical professional into the Semmelweis clinical environment for an extended period, the program supported international exchange and offered participants an insight into medical education and clinical practice in Hungary.

The program concluded with a certificate award ceremony, marking the end of the students’ three-month clinical experience at Semmelweis University. Dr. Tamás Hegedüs, Director of International Relations and Alumni Affairs, and Deputy Director Levente Vágó congratulated the students on their successful completion of the program.
The program formed part of Semmelweis University’s growing international engagement in medical education and its efforts to provide structured clinical training opportunities for students and healthcare professionals from partner institutions around the world.
