In modern healthcare, excellence depends not only on medical knowledge, but also on the ability to lead teams, manage institutions, and translate strategic decisions into safer, more efficient patient care. This approach was at the heart of Semmelweis University’s Management Skills Development training series, launched for staff members of the George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science, and Technology of Târgu Mureș.
The nine-month hybrid training program was designed to support the professional and academic development of university employees working in medical, pharmaceutical, public health, and management-related fields. Delivered by experts from the Health Services Management Training Centre at Semmelweis University’s Faculty of Health and Public Administration, the series addressed key areas of health care management from both organizational and sectoral perspectives.
Participants explored topics such as interpersonal communication, organizational behavior, change management, quality management, and patient safety, as well as the structure and financing of health systems, human resource challenges, digitalization, sustainability, public health, health technology assessment, and health policy.
A central feature of the training was its interactive, experience-based methodology. Both the online and in-person sessions encouraged participants to share professional experiences, reflect on real-life institutional challenges, and discuss good practices from their own health care and higher education environments.
As a concluding element of the program, on June 19, 2026, participants had the chance to visit Semmelweis University’s core facilities in person. The visit aimed to further strengthen professional and institutional ties between the two universities. Following a welcome at Semmelweis University’s central building, the delegation was introduced to the university’s international strategy and educational structure.
The program continued with a visit to the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences (GYTK), where participants gained insight into educational and organizational practices at the faculty. This was followed by a clinical visit to the Central Patient Care Building, including the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy.
The on-site program provided participants with a closer look at the connection between education, clinical care, and institutional management in one of Hungary’s leading medical and health sciences universities. It also created an opportunity to explore future areas of cooperation.
The Management Skills Development training series is expected to contribute to a long-term, deepening partnership between Semmelweis University and George Emil Palade University. Through programs of this kind, Semmelweis University continues to support international knowledge exchange and professional capacity building in health care and higher education.
