The Senate decided on the awarding of scientific prizes and organizational changes concerning the Clinical Center at its June meeting. The body heard information on the implementation of the Family-Friendly University Program and the Semmelweis Symposium planned for this year.

The body decided on the renewal of the composition of the Committee for Social and Equal Opportunities for Students (SZEB), as the 14-member body’s three-year mandate will soon expire. Dr. Zoltán Benyó was re-elected as the chair of the renewed SZEB.

The Summer University will again this year offer 1 credit point as an elective subject, and the event on 2-3 September will traditionally include sports, arts and other co-curricular subjects, in addition to medicine and health sciences.

In the context of the presentation on the organizational changes at the Clinical Center, it was decided that the anesthesia and intensive care activities of the Inner Clinical Block (BKT) will be fully managed by the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy, under a single professional management. This will also bring about the centralization of anesthesia and intensive care in the BKT. A similar centralization and unified professional management will be achieved for the imaging diagnostics activity, which will be carried out in the future by the Department of Medical Imaging on the territory of the block. This integration will improve the diagnostic background of BKT and will allow the extension of the 7/24 on-call system already in place in the Outer Clinical Block. It has also been decided that the Specialist Outpatient Clinic attached to the Minimally Invasive and Day Surgery Clinic in the St. Rokus Clinical Block will become an independent unit under the name of Semmelweis University Specialist Outpatient Institute (SESZI).

Information was given on the implementation of the Family-Friendly University Program. The Senate decided to launch the program just one year ago. Since then, the university has been awarded the Family-Friendly Workplace title and the bronze level of the Family-Friendly Place certification mark. Among the many achievements, the information note mentions, among others, the Semmelweis Card, which entitles all university citizens to various services and discounts, the launch of the Family-Friendly Doctor’s Visits service, which has been used by 73 staff members since its opening on 15 May, the strengthening of the psychological consultation service and the gradual expansion of the range of available screening programs.

The curricula of medical training introduced from the 2019/20 academic year have been modified, affecting the distribution and number of hours of anatomy subjects, but not the number of credits.

Senators also discussed the applications for the Asklepios Campus Hamburg, the current applications for the positions of Head of Department and Lecturer, and decided on the awarding of Doctor Honoris Causa titles and the Pro Universitate Award. It was also decided that the latter award – in addition to the previous limit of 8 persons per year – may also be granted to persons not employed by the university.

The rules of procedure of the Standing Committees of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, elected by the Senate, were adopted and revised and updated in accordance with the relevant rules in force. The curricula for the full-time Master of Public Health program of the Faculty of Health and Public Administration, and the modification of the curricula for the correspondence course, both of which focus on practicality and the skills elements of the training outcome requirements, were adopted.

A change to the organizational structure of the Dean’s Office of the András Pető Faculty was adopted, which will see the creation of the Center for International and National Excellence, merging three groups under the direct leadership of the Dean.

It was decided to amend certain provisions of the Organizational and Operational Rules (SZMSZ), which introduced several changes affecting departments below the level of the Directorate: the Human Brain Tissue Bank and Laboratory is incorporated into the Department of Anatomy, Tissue and Development Sciences as an independent unit, the Health Sciences Programme Coordination and Development Office is incorporated into the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Directorate for Personnel Management is incorporated into the Directorate-General for Legal and Administrative Affairs, and the administrative changes to the Central Library and the Technical Directorate-General’s Directorate for Facilities Development and Management have been transposed.

It was also agreed that the renewal of the title of Professor Emeritus for a further five years will be decided by the Rector on the recommendation of the Head of the Department and the Dean.

The body decided the awards for the 2021 Semmelweis Budapest Award, the Vilma Hugonnai, Tivadar Huzella and Ernő Jendrassik Memorial Medal and Prize, and the Mária Hári Memorial Medal and Prize. The Senators were informed about the organization of this year’s Semmelweis Symposium on 16-18 November: the main organizers of the Semmelweis 250+ anniversary symposium are rector Dr. Béla Merkely and Dr. Péter Ferdinandy, Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation, and the focus will be on clinical research.

The composition of the University Scientific Council has been changed, following a change in the representative of the Faculty of Dentistry.
