12 students received the Outstanding Scientific Student Conference (TDK) Award from Semmelweis University; and 6 faculty members received the Outstanding TDK Teacher Award. The recognitions were handed over to the awardees by Dr. Béla Merkely, Rector and Dr. Attila Szijártó, President of the Scientific Student Association of Semmelweis University on 4 March. The event took place in compliance with the epidemiological regulations.

In his opening speech, the Rector reminded those present that the coronavirus appeared in Hungary exactly a year ago, but in the past year the citizens of Semmelweis University – students, teachers, clinicians and physicians – have all set an example.

This example also characterizes the work of those who have earned an award today”, Dr. Béla Merkely highlighted.

We owe a great deal to the supervisors who have set up a small workshop within the institutes and clinics that represent the large workshop. TDK students working under their supervision will later become PhD students and then colleagues”, pointed out the Rector.

He also praised TDK students who had undertaken sacrificial extra work for years in addition to attending graduate training that is not at all easy, and win awards.

The future of our university depends on these workshops and these young talents”, Dr, Béla Merkely emphasized.

The past year has changed the lives of all of us, but there is something that has not changed: the spirit of Semmelweis University, which stands for science and research, as it has strengthened even further”, said Dr. Attila Szijártó, President of the Scientific Student Association. He expressed special thanks to those teachers and supervisors who, in addition to their daily clinical work and teaching duties, devoted time, strength, and energy to nurturing talent.

In the same way, I would like to thank the students who, in addition to working at vaccination points and helping with screenings, were involved in the fight against the infection, but in the meantime, they also found the opportunity for scientific work. This day is especially solemn, as we can greet and reward outstanding teachers and 12 outstanding students from almost all of our six faculties, all of whom were worthy of this recognition”, pointed out Dr. Attila Szijártó.
