The fourth International Students’ Conference (TDK), hosted by Semmelweis University was opened on 12th February 2015 in the spirit of the quote by Gabriel García Marquez (1927-2014). At the opening ceremony Dr. Béla Merkely, president of the TDK Council related that participants came from four Hungarian and five foreign universities, including Russia, Romania, and Brazil.

tdk_gyak4After the submission of the abstracts in December 2014, 55 presentations were chosen to be performed at the conference running simultaneously with the traditional Students’ Scientific Association (TDK) Conference. Given the success of last year’s practical competition, this year the young researchers could compare their practical skills in the fields of surgery, dentistry and pharmacy again.

In his opening speech Rector Ágoston Szél pointed out that TDK conferences provided an excellent ground for students to take their first steps in the scientific world. He emphasized that the students participating in the competition warrant Semmelweis University’s prestige and esteem, and their participation in research helps them not only to gain knowledge but to prepare for future scientific activities.

Dr. Béla Merkely, president of the TDK Council said that it was essential for talents to be recognised at an early stage, because they needed distinguished attention and fostering in order to reach their full potential.

The International Student Conference’s opening presentation was held by Professor Maximkin Alexandrovich from People’s Friendship University of Russia about challenges and achievements of interventional cardiology in the Russian Federation.
