In our photo series, we present the departments of the university that are most affected by COVID care. In the framework of the third part, Attila Kovács, photographer of Semmelweis University’s Directorate of Communication, this time visited the red zone of the Cardiology Intensive Care Unit of the Heart and Vascular Centre. Due to the significant increase in the number of infections in recent weeks, the number of patients receiving “artificial lung” treatment at the department has now increased to nine. During the so-called ECMO treatment, a significant part of the lung capacity is replaced by an “artificial lung” placed next to the patient’s bed.
