The seventh academic year of Semmelweis University’s off-campus physiotherapy programme was opened at the University of Human Sciences and Technology of Lugano (LUDES University). This year 50 freshmen start the BSc programme run in Italian, which has more than 200 students all together.
The ceremony was opened by Dr. Manuela Di Martino, President, Dr. Antonello Martinez, Rector and Dr. Alessandro Scuotto, Dean of LUDES University. Semmelweis University was represented by Dr. István Vingender, Vice-Dean of Educational Affairs at the Faculty of Health Sciences. In his speech he recalled the history of the cooperation between the two institutions and mentioned that the Swiss university was visited by two members of the Hungarian Accreditation Committee in February. He emphasized the importance of the academic year 2015/2016 as it is the 150th anniversary of the death of Ignác Semmelweis and the 40th anniversary of the foundation of the Faculty of Health Sciences.
The welcome addresses were followed by a scientific lecture on the relationship between rehabilitation and technological advancements presented by a professor from LUDES University.
Semmelweis University’s Faculty of Health Sciences launched the off-campus BSc programme for physiotherapists in English in 2009 in Lugano. As the demand for the programme had continuously been growing in the northern part of Italy, the programme was launched in Italian as well in 2013.
