Semmelweis University is on the 5th place, the best among Hungarian universities, on the New Europe rankings of Times Higher Education (THE). In the new ranking list those countries’ universities can be found which have joined the European Union since 2004, the ranking method equals to THE World University Rankings method.
Among 53 universities of 13 countries, the first is the University of Tartu (Estonia), on the 2nd and 3rd places there are two universities in Cyprus, from the Central and Eastern European region only Charles University overtook Semmelweis University. 7 Hungarian higher educational institutes were added to the list: Semmelweis University is the 5th, Eötvös Loránd University is the 11th, the University of Pécs is the 13th, the University of Szeged is the 18th, the Budapest University of Technology and Economics is the 25th, the University of Debrecen is the 27th, Corvinus University of Budapest is on the 31st -40th in the rankings. The Czech Republic has the best results among the surveyed countries as 13 universities of its were added to the list.
The surveyors of THE measure the universities based on the indicators of 5 areas: educational environment, research, citation, industrial revenues and international orientation.
