Seven Hungarian universities are listed on the recently published world ranking of the London-based Times Higher Education (THE), among which Semmelweis University is ranked highest.

Semmelweis University remains to be in the range of 401-500 in the ranking of THE, though its partial results have improved. There are a total of more than 1250 universities on the list, and among the seven Hungarian higher education institutions Semmelweis University has received the highest place.

The creators of the world ranking classify institutions based on five factors: education environment, research, citation, industrial incomes and international orientation. Semmelweis University performed best in the latter category, which was due to the proportion of foreign students and teachers as well as the publications made in international cooperation. The institution also managed to improve its results in the other factors in comparison with the previous year.

Among the Hungarian higher education institutions, Eötvös Loránd University, the University of Pécs and the University of Szeged are ranked in the range of 601-800. The Budapest University of Technology and Economics and the University of Debrecen are in the range of 801-1000, while Corvinus University of Budapest is in the 1001+ category.

The top three places in the world ranking were received by the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge and Stanford.
