The Department of Pulmonology at Semmelweis University continues to provide exceptional care as Hungary’s top-level (IIIb) pulmonary care institution, treating 4,000 inpatients and 16,000 outpatients annually. The Department offers comprehensive diagnostic capabilities including bronchology, chest ultrasound, digital X-ray, lung function testing, echocardiography, blood gas analysis, and sleep apnea-hypopnea diagnostics.
The Department manages the full spectrum of respiratory diseases, from asthma and COPD to rare lung diseases and acute respiratory failure. Its expanding medical rehabilitation program and unique position as Hungary’s sole lung transplantation selection and long-term care center distinguish it as the nation’s premier pulmonology service. Under the leadership of Director Prof. Dr. Veronika Müller, the Department actively pursues international collaborations to advance both clinical care and research in pulmonary medicine.
