The training program of Semmelweis University in the subject of dentistry has been listed among the top 200 in the world – this is the first time a Hungarian university has ranked so high in this field. In its latest 2021 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, ShanghaiRanking, which also publishes the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), Semmelweis continues to be among the top 300 in the categories of clinical medicine and medical technology.

This is the first time a Hungarian university’s dentistry program has made it this high in an international ranking list: Semmelweis has been ranked among the top 200 of ShanghaiRanking’s 2021 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects in the subject of dentistry and oral sciences.

In the subject of clinical medicine, Semmelweis has maintained its position in the 2021 list, ranking at 201-300, while among other Hungarian universities, the University of Szeged ranked 401-500. Semmelweis retained its position at 201-300 in the field of medical technology as well, while in biological sciences it ranks 301-400 and in human biological sciences it is in position 401-500. Semmelweis University is also the only Hungarian university to make it to these subject lists.

The ranking, published annually since 2003, measures the performance of the institutions based on publication activity indicators, such as the proportion of published publications, the number of publications in leading journals or conferences and the number of researchers awarded with significant prizes. Semmelweis University scored higher in citations compared to the average score, and the number of articles published in high-prestige journals.
