Compared to last year’s results, Semmelweis University has improved 6 places and ranked 64th in the Emerging Economies University list of Times Higher Education (THE), achieving the most prominent place among Hungarian higher education institutions. In the category of Life sciences and medicine recently published by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), Semmelweis University has improved by 23 positions, thus finishing at the 272nd place, receiving the best ranking in Hungary.
The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) international ranking by subject compares universities around the world based on five major disciplines.
Semmelweis University ranked 232nd in the Life sciences and medicine category, advancing 23 places compared to last year’s 272nd, achieving the best result in Hungary.
The University of Debrecen is positioned between 401-450, while the University of Szeged is between 451-500.
In the list of narrower and more specialized disciplines, Semmelweis University ranks between 201-250 in the fields of Medicine and Pharmacy & Pharmacology.
When compiling the QS international field rankings, four aspects are taken into consideration: the frequency of citations of scientific works related to the institution, the reputation of the institution in the scientific arena, employee opinions, and the bibliographic indicator (h-index citations).
The Times Higher Education Emerging Economies University list has also been published recently, which compares universities in emerging economies; 606 institutions from 48 countries are included in the compilation, ranked according to 13 indicators.
Out of the Hungarian universities, only Semmelweis University managed to be among the top 100, improving 6 places compared to last year’s 70th place: it ranked 64th achieving the best result out of the nine Hungarian institutions on the list.
Eötvös Loránd University is 147th, the University of Pécs is 155th, the University of Debrecen is 195th, and the University of Szeged ranked between 201-250. Budapest University of Technology and Economics and Corvinus University of Budapest ranked between 351-400, and Szent István University is between 401-500. The University of Miskolc, which is a new participant in this ranking, ranked over 501st place.
