The Faculty of Medicine is on top of the list of the training area in medicine and health sciences and also regarding student- and teacher excellence in the ranking of higher education institutions recently published by HVG. As regards student excellence, several faculties of Semmelweis University are ranked among the best in the training area lists: the Faculty of Dentistry is ranked 3rd, the Faculty of Health Sciences is ranked 6th, and the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences is ranked 9th. Regarding teacher excellence, the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences is ranked 6th, however the average of teachers possessing an MTA title is the largest here. The Faculty of Sciences is ranked 10th, and it is especially prominent in terms of the average of student number per a teacher possessing an academic degree. Both the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences are ranked 1st regarding their own undivided training area ranking lists, overtaking the University of Debrecen, the University of Pécs and the University of Szeged.
The Faculty of Medicine achieved an outstanding result in the cumulative training area lists of the faculties (in the national ranking of faculties containing all the training areas): it was ranked 2nd following the Faculty of Humanities of Loránd Eötvös University, which means an improvement in place compared to the previous year’s ranking results.
The cumulative institutional ranking list, which takes teacher- and student excellence into account as well, contains several, size dependent indicators, but despite this fact, Semmelweis University is ranked 6th, and in terms of student excellence, it is ranked 5th in the list. The list is led by Loránd Eötvös University, followed by the Budapest University of Technology and Economics as well as the University of Debrecen.
The HVG ranking list published in Diploma 2021 is based on Univ-Press rankings. The editors of the publication created the lists on the basis of teacher- and student excellence this year, too. Besides the number and average of qualified teachers, another important aspect is the proportion of the members of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the owners of the academic doctoral degree within the entire teacher staff of a faculty at an institution. Student excellence was measured on the basis of application and score data, as well as the average of students having a successfully completed language examination, by also taking into consideration in what proportion the winning students of academic competitions are represented at the certain training center.
