The Semmelweis Health Days program series organized by the Department of Pulmonology are being continued online. On the occasion held on November 26, participants can attend online lectures about pulmonary diseases and their treatments.

The presentations target three main topics. In the first bloc, the registered participants can receive new and useful information about smoking, lung tumours as well as their treatment. The presentations will focus on questions related to the following: whether there is a less harmful alternative of smoking; how the different alternative tobacco products affect the lungs, such as hookah, e-cigarette and IQOS. There will be lectures about the new treatment opportunities of lung cancer, targeted therapies and about how to provide support “well” to a close relative with advanced malignancy.

In the second bloc of the program series, asthma and allergies are being examined. What could be the cause behind if someone is allergic to dog hair, cat hair or house dust? Are we capable to influence this? Is it painful when someone is being tested for asthma? Why is inhalation therapy more effective than tablets? Among other things, these questions will be answered during the lectures and the consultations afterwards.

In the third bloc of the online program, the topics will focus on respiratory infections, especially about COVID-19, since the pandemic, which is now present in our daily lives, again drew attention to infectious diseases. One can not only get to know information about how the virus affects the lungs, but also about how it is possible to support our own recovery at home. Besides this, it is important to talk about “traditional” respiratory diseases, such as flu. What can we do to prevent it? How can we protect ourselves and how does the vaccination produce its effects? These questions will not remain without an answer. It will also turn out what exactly stands behind exercise-induced shortness of breath, whether it is caused by the lack of exercises, obesity, a lung disease or cardiac problems.

The interactive, public health program series of Semmelweis University celebrating its 250th anniversary are being held on November 26; the lectures are free but require a pre-registration.
