The Hungarian National Blood Transfusion Service has launched a blood donation campaign for students of the four Hungarian medical universities in order to ensure the availability of necessary blood products on an ongoing basis.  During the campaign between 3-9 August, students can donate blood at the headquarter of the Hungarian National Blood Transfusion Service or at its local offices throughout the country. Members of the Students’ Union of Semmelweis University were among the first donors yesterday.

The students of Semmelweis University were highly active blood donors during the COVID-19 epidemic as well: the team of Semmelweis University Students’ Union was the most successful in the campaign of the Hungarian Red Cross, which ended in May. Since one blood donation can save the lives of up to three people, students indirectly helped nearly twenty thousand people then. President Bálint Tripolszky said that he expects similarly good results from Semmelweis students at the current Blood Donor Medics’ Week.

“We can be very proud of the spring blood donation campaign and I’m sure that – as members of a cohesive community – committed students of Semmelweis University will participate this new campaign in even higher numbers and we will be able to break our previous record” said Bálint Tripolszky.
