This year as well Semmelweis University is once again the highest-ranked Hungarian university on Times Higher Education’s newly published ranking of universities by subject, in the category of clinical, pre-clinical and health subjects. Similar to last year, the university is ranked in the 301-400 range, but within this, based on its indicators, it has moved up 61 positions. Semmelweis University also ranks among the top 400 universities in the world in the category of life sciences.

Times Higher Education’s (THE) newly published ranking compares global higher education institutions in 11 scientific areas. Semmelweis University appears on two lists, in the categories for clinical, pre-clinical and health subjects, and for life sciences, placing in the 301-400 range in both, the same as last year.

In the ranking for clinical, pre-clinical and health subjects, the university has moved up 61 positions compared to the previous year. Although THE publishes only the position range, based on the public indicator values it can be determined that Semmelweis is currently the 318th best university in this field, compared to last year, when it placed 379th. Semmelweis University showed the biggest improvement in its “research” indicator. The other three Hungarian medical and health sciences universities were ranked in the 401-500 and the 501-600 range.

In the life sciences category, Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) and Semmelweis University were the highest ranked Hungarian universities, both placing in the 301-400 range. Based on an analysis of the indicators, ELTE placed ahead of Semmelweis within the officially published range. This list also included four other Hungarian institutions, which ranked in positions 501-600 and 600+.
