During the academic year 2017/2018, almost 50 first-year physiotherapist students started their studies at the off-campus programme of the Faculty of Health Sciences in L.U.de.S. Lugano. The programme was commenced by the Faculty nine years ago, currently more than 300 BSc physiotherapist students are studying at the Swiss institution.
The new academic year was officially opened by Dr. Manuela Di Martino, President of L.U.de.S. Lugano, afterwards Professor Alfonso Sodano welcomed the students. During the opening ceremony a short video was presented to the audience, which was prepared by those L.U.de.S. students in 2016 October at the Faculty of Health Sciences, who completed their training practice at Semmelweis University. On behalf of Semmelweis University Dr. Zoltán Zsolt Nagy, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences held a ceremonial speech, and following this, the students took their solemn oath led by Matteo Corona.
The commencement speech was delivered by Dr. Camelo Chisari, Professor of the University of Padova, entitled La medicina riabilitativa: una scienza di frontiera.
The Faculty of Health Sciences at Semmelweis University started its English language off-campus physiotherapy BSc programme in Lugano in 2009. Since there was a high-level interest in this programme in the northern region of Italy as well, therefore the programme has been also offered in Italian since 2013.
