18 employees and 8 medical students of Semmelweis University could participate in study abroad or exchange opportunities in 2016, during which the costs of accommodation and daily allowances were covered by the partner institution, while the travel costs were covered by Semmelweis University. In parallel, four specialists from international partner institutions visited different clinics or institutes of Semmelweis University.
The purposes of the visits are the continuation of previously started common projects and research, the exchange of information, the study and observation of new processes and methods or simply getting in contact to initiate new collaborations.
The purpose of the visit of Dr. Helén Hevér at the University of Triest, resident doctor at the Department of Oro-Maxillofacial Surgery and Stomatology of Semmelweis University, was the initiation of new collaborations. Dr. Hevér had the opportunity to observe the daily work of the department of stomatology at the University of Triest for two weeks. The idea of a possible collaboration was raised previously and as a result of Dr. Hevér’s visit to Triest two resident doctors from the University of Triest visited Semmelweis University and spent a week at the Department of Oro-Maxillofacial Surgery and Stomatology.
Dr. Gabriella Csík, Associate Professor at the Department of Biophysics and Radiation Biology, spent two weeks at Ruprecht Karl University in Heidelberg related to an ongoing research project with the German institution. There has been a scientific collaboration between the Institute of Biophysics of Macromolecules of the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg (DKFZ) and the researchers of the Department of Biophysics and Radiation Biology at Semmelweis University for many years, as a result of which more than ten scientific publications were created already.
