Semmelweis students
The number of foreign students enrolled at Semmelweis University has increased by around five percent from the 2010/2011 academic year, according to recently released admission statistics. This means that nearly a quarter of the University’s students are currently studying in either English or German. The Faculty of Medicine tops the list in terms of having the most international students, with 49 percent of those enrolled at the Faculty coming from abroad.

Germany continues to lead the Top 10 list of countries of origin with 826 students, while Norway (261) moved up one spot to second place, followed by Iran (243 students), Israel (203) and Sweden (165). Italy (96 students) and Spain (85 students) are newcomers on the Top 10 list.

The German language programme was launched in 1983, while the English language programme followed six years later; the programmes are currently attended by 856 and 1880 students, respectively. Just over 200 of the foreign students are enrolled in the Hungarian language programme, the vast majority of whom are ethnic Hungarians from Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and the Ukraine.
