The Senate of Semmelweis University has appointed Dr. Róbert Langer as new-vice rector, a position he assumed on July 1, 2011.
Dr. Langer, who is director of the Department of Transplantation and Surgery, received his appointment after former Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation Miklós Tóth left his post to become Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport Sciences.
Vice-Rector Miklós Kellermayer continues to be in charge of the University’s international relations, though his other area of responsibility has switched from education to science and innovation. Dr. Ágoston Szél’s position remains unchanged as Vice-Rector for General Affairs.
Dr. Róbert Langer began to work at Semmelweis University’s Department of Transplantation and Surgery in 1994, becoming its director on July 1, 2009.
He won the Richter Gedeon Research Award in 2005 and was recipient of the University’s Ernő Jendrassik medallion the following year, an honour given in recognition of clinical research results.
In 2007, Dr. Langer was elected as a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also coordinator in the School of Ph.D. Studies’s Clinical Medicine and Pathological Sciences doctoral schools, member of the University’s Talent Support Council and chief editor of the Hungarian quarterly Orvosképzés.
