JA ImpleMental

2021.10.01 – 2024.09.30

About the project

The aim of the Joint Action is to support the Member States of the European Union in introducing best practices that develop and promote the mental health and well-being of the population and their care. In addition, a key objective is to ensure the effectiveness of mental health care through innovative solutions. The JA focuses on two best practices, a reform of the Belgian health care system and an Austrian best practice in the field of suicide prevention.

The aim of these best practices it to demonstrate to the Member States the development of innovative and sustainable mental health care systems and services, and the importance of multi-level prevention networks.

The primary aspects of the work:

  • Capacity building in healthcare
  • Real and effective changes in the system
  • Implementation of an integrated care model
  • Cooperation between relevant stakeholders
  • Increased guidance and cooperation between authorities at international, national and regional levels.

The two best practices proposed for implementation are:

  • Mental health care delivery system reform, Belgium: provision of demand-driven residential care, integrated and patient-centered mental health care.
  • Suicide Prevention Austria, SUPRA: a multi-level suicide prevention program.
