Master of Science in Healthcare Management – Bratislava / Health Management Academy – Bratislava (in English)

The launch of the Slovak-language off-site training by the Semmelweis University Health Services Management Training Centre (HSMTC) of the Faculty of Health and Public Administration is not without precedent.

The original curriculum for the Master’s degree was developed in cooperation with Slovak experts between 2004 and 2006, in the framework of a World Bank project, so the curriculum, teaching materials, teaching aids and notes were available in both English and Slovak. Building on these developments, the first Slovak language course was launched in 2010 in cooperation with the newly established Slovak Health Management Academy, then as a specialised further education course and later as a Master’s course, headquartered in Budapest.

Based on the evaluation of experiences from the initial cohorts, by autumn 2017 the programme development had reached a stage where the conditions were in place to launch the master’s programme as an off-campus course. Following the completion of the accreditation process, the training could start in Bratislava from the academic year 2020/2021.

Information about the start of the programme and the admission requirements is available on the website of the Health Management Academy.

Economics – compulsory elective course (in English)

Contrary to popular belief, economics is not primarily about money. Its main objective is to support individuals in making decisions that help them achieve their goals. The course will illustrate that economics is a general tool for more effective work, leadership and a better understanding of how the world works, which graduates in pharmacy will also need.

In addition, the course guides students through the application and relevance of economic concepts within their chosen profession, illustrating these through practical examples and real-life decision-making scenarios.

The primary aim of the course is to guide students through the economic laws that run through all areas of life, and to provide a basis for and promote optimal decision-making and the effectiveness of the tasks.

Sustainability in Healthcare – optional course (in English)

One of the greatest health challenges of the 21st century is the ecological crisis, which has escalated during this era – known as the Anthropocene. The foundation of sustainability lies in addressing today’s (health-related) challenges in a way that does not compromise the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

The training will prepare future health professionals to understand that sustainable health care can only be achieved by managing social, economic and environmental systems in harmonious cooperation for the mutual benefit of all.

The course aims not only to provide a theoretical background, but also to present relevant existing and various new good practices – technological and social – and adapt them to the national situation.
