“The outstanding professional achievements of Semmelweis University graduates and the alumni community are acknowledged worldwide. Our former students are key ambassadors for the university, who their alma mater is proud of and who are always welcome to return, which feels like a homecoming. More than 300 people from all over the world attended the 2023 International Alumni Meeting, which was part of the series of events celebrating the 40th anniversary of foreign-language education at the university. Based on the success of the first meeting and the experience gained, the demand to make these reunions more frequent was expressed, and the decision to organize them every two years was made,” said Dr. Tamás Hegedüs, Head of the Alumni Directorate.
On May 17-18 this year, we are inviting former students from all over the world who have completed their international studies and graduated from the university to meet again and reconnect, share their experiences, and build their professional network through casual discussions. The event offers professional workshops, round-table discussions, and insight into the progress and strategic vision of Semmelweis University citizens, pointed out Dr. Tamás Hegedüs, adding that scientific programs would be accompanied by cultural and recreational programs, sightseeing tours, a gala dinner, and a lunch cruise.
These gatherings, in addition to fostering a sense of belonging and promoting the international exchange of knowledge and culture, also contribute to the continuous development and thriving of the alumni community, as they create many new opportunities in addition to reminiscing and increase the strength and impact of the international network of thousands of Semmelweis graduates.

Dr. Tamás Hegedüs added that this year, the meeting would be dedicated to building a culture of donation. The proceeds will be used to equip the Pediatric Center with an MRI machine that will provide fast and safe care for at least 300 critically ill children per month. Child MRI scans are already a priority at the university, with almost 300 MRI scans per month performed in 2024, totaling 3400. The new equipment, solely reserved for the diagnostic care of children, is aimed to increase this number to over 4000.
