Semmelweis University has improved in subjects Clinical Medicine and Pharmacy of the latest ShanghaiRanking 2023, making it into the top 200 and 150, respectively. In Dentistry, the institution continues to be ranked in the top 300, while in Public Health, it has entered the top 300 for the first time.

ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects ranks institutions in 55 subjects within five fields (Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences). The minimum entry requirements and the number of universities included vary in each subject ranking.

Compared to last year’s results, Semmelweis University has made progress in several subjects. In the 2023 edition, it is ranked 151-200 in Clinical Medicine, up one category from the 201-300 range last year; in Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, it has improved from 201-300 last year to 101-151 this year; in Medical Technology, it is ranked 201-300 this year, up from 301-400 last year; and in Human Biological Sciences, it is now ranked in the top 400, up from 401-500 in 2022. The university retained its position in the top 300 in Dentistry & Oral Sciences and in the top 500 in Biological Sciences, and for the first time this year it was included in the top 300 in Public Health.

Semmelweis University is the best ranked or the sole Hungarian university in almost all subjects, only in Biology is it outranked by Eötvös Loránd University, which is placed in the 301-400 range.

Semmelweis is also the top-ranked university of the region in subjects Pharmacy and Dentistry.
