The latest QS World University Rankings by subject 2023 has been published, which measures the performance of the world’s universities based on five key indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, research citations per paper (associated with the institution), bibliographic indicator of citation (H-index), and the degree of international diversity regarding the institution’s research collaborations (International Research Network – IRN).
As in last year’s rankings, Semmelweis University has been selected among the best in four disciplines. It is now ranked 264th in Life Science and Medicine; in Medicine and Pharmacy & Pharmacology, the institution is in the top 250, and in Anatomy & Physiology, it is among the world’s top 150. As for the very best, Harvard University leads in the first three disciplines, whereas Oxford University finished in the first place in Anatomy & Physiology.
In terms of Hungarian higher education institutions, Semmelweis University is in the top position in each of these rankings. It is also among the leading universities regionally: in Anatomy and Physiology, it is ranked first in a tie with the Medical University of Graz; in Life Science and Medicine as well as Medicine, it is ahead of only the Medical University of Vienna and Charles University in Prague. In Pharmacy & Pharmacology, it is tied with the Jagello University in Krakow, just behind the Medical University of Vienna, Charles University and the University of Innsbruck.
