168 staff members of Semmelweis University received a university recognition on the occasion of the 173rd anniversary of the Revolution and War of Independence of 1848/49. The awards will be presented at a later date due to the current epidemiological situation, however, the rewards related to the awards have been transferred nevertheless.
On the occasion of the national holiday, based on the decision of the Senate of Semmelweis University, Dr. György Mészáros (Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Department of Molecular Biology) has received a Pro Universitate Award. Such a recognition may be awarded to those who have contributed to the achievement of the university’s goals at a high level throughout their many years of outstanding work.
Three people received the Pro Universitate Order of Merit: Dr. Zsuzsanna Széman (Institute of Mental Health), Dr. János Fazakas (Department of Transplantation and Surgery) and Dr. Endre Vastag (Department of Pulmonology). This order of merit is awarded to university staff who have been doing outstanding work for a long period of time.
In connection with this year’s national holiday, a total of 50 people received the Semmelweis University Outstanding Employee Award, 2 people received the Semmelweis University Outstanding Conductor Award, and 3 people received the Zsuzsanna Kossuth Memorial Award. 33 people received the Rector’s Praise, 24 people received the Chancellor’s Praise, and 52 people received a Dean’s Praise.
Although due to the epidemic situation, this year’s university commemoration will not be held and thus the awards will be presented at a later date, yet at the same time the rewards associated with the recognition have been transferred. In his speech on the occasion of the national holiday, Dr. Béla Merkely, Rector highlights the importance and appreciation of the university’s human resources, as well as the power of unity and cooperation.
“In this unconventional commemoration, we can bow not only to our ancestors, who played an important role in the events of 1848/49, but also to our heroes today, who successfully took up the fight against the coronavirus and set an example of all the values that can make our university and nation great”, the Rector emphasized.
