THE subject rankings: Semmelweis University among top 250 in the world

Semmelweis University is the best university in Hungary, according to Times Higher Education’s (THE) newly published global ranking of universities by subject. In the category of clinical and health subjects, the institution has moved up two full categories with an improvement of 87 positions, from the previous 301-400 range to the category of 201-250th place. The other three Hungarian medical universities are ranked 401-500 on the list. In the category of life sciences, Semmelweis University improved its position by 56 places, making it also the sole Hungarian university ranked in the 301-400 range.

Times Higher Education’s newly published ranking compares global higher education institutions in 11 scientific areas. Semmelweis University appears on two lists. In the category for clinical and health subjects, the university has moved up 87 positions and now ranks in the 201-250 range, compared to position 301-400 last year. The other three Hungarian medical universities are ranked 401-500 on the latest 2021 list.

In the category for life sciences, Semmelweis University moved up 56 positions and ranks in the 301-400 range. The other five Hungarian institutions on the list are ranked in the 401-500, 501-600 and 601-800 ranges.

Semmelweis University is the highest-ranked higher education institution in Hungary on the 2021 THE subject ranking list. THE ranks universities based on scores for five indicators, of which Semmelweis University showed big improvements in four: teaching, research, citations and industry income.
