The learning environment, the number of international students and lecturers, the quality of research, the number of citations to the institution’s publications and market revenue are taken into account when drawing up the ranking. Based on the above, and considering the scores, Semmelweis University’s previous result has improved (the aggregate score changed from 35.5 to 37.5). In addition, the development priorities of universities of emerging economies, such as industry relations and international perspectives are evaluated as well.
The ranking of emerging economies compares 533 universities from 47 countries (only 442 universities were ranked in 2019), and this year’s leading positions in list are occupied by Chinese higher education institutions (Tsinghua University, Peking University, Zhejiang University). New players in the 2020 ranking are universities from Saudi Arabia and Iceland. Among Hungarian universities, Semmelweis ranked the highest at 70, while Eötvös Loránd University was ranked 149th, the University of Pécs was ranked 176th, the University of Szeged was ranked between 201-250, the University of Debrecen and the Budapest University of Technology and Economics were placed among 251-300, the Budapest Corvinus University occupies a place between 301-350, and Szent István University was ranked 351-400.
