A statue of Ignác Semmelweis was inaugurated in the Mount Sinai Hospital of Toronto as part of the Semmelweis Memorial Year. The ceremony was hosted by director Dr. Gary Newton. The speakers included Dr. Péter Forbáth, Canadian-Hungarian physician, who praised Ignác Semmelweis’ work in his speech, Dr. Trevor Young, dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, and Dr. Dan Farine, head of the hospital’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. In his speech, Valér Palkovits, Consul General in Canada, spoke about the Memorial Year, thanking everyone who contributed to the project, making special mention of Dr. László Rosivall, president of the Semmelweis Memorial Committee, and Dr. John Dirks, Canadian nephrologist.
