Dr. Péter Kempler, university professor of the 1st Department of Internal Medicine and head of the Hungarian Diabetes Association, was elected president of the Neuropathy Study Group of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (NEURODIAB) for the next three years. The decision was made at the 28th Annual Meeting of the Diabetic Neuropathy Study Group of the EASD at the beginning of September in Rome. NEURODIAB is the only international scientific association in Europe which deals with neurological problems accompanying diabetes mellitus.

Neuropathy is the neurological complication of diabetes, which is actually the most common neurological disorder. Dominantly, this leads to leg amputations of around 10 diabetics in Hungary every day, Dr. Péter Kempler pointed out.

Recently, Professor Kempler was elected the future president of the Central European Diabetes Association.
