Semmelweis University and 10 other foreign universities in 5 sections altogether with 59 lectures took part in the 7th Conference of the International Students’ Scientific Associaton which was held within the frame of Semmelweis Annual Scientific Conference.
Dr. Béla Merkely, President of the Students’ Scientific Association of Semmelweis University, in his opening speech expressed that apart from giving their lectures, the students taking part in the conference, can also compete in three practical competitions: individually at the Laparoscopic Practical Competition, in teams of 3-5 at János Kabay Pharmaceutical Practical Competition and individually at Jolán Bánóczy Practical Competition for students of dentistry. The main goal of the competitions is to give the opportunity to the students to contest not only in their theoretical but also in their practical knowledge.
Dr. Abramov Alexey, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of People’s Friendship University, Russia, in his greeting explained that the cooperation with Semmelweis University is one of their most significant international relations. He also reminded the audience that Dr. Béla Merkely became Doctor Honoris Causa of their university. Dr. Abramov Alexey added that most of the foreign students attending the conference came from their university. He explained that the work and the competition within the Students’ Scientific Association Council mean expressive possibility for the students to become excellent physicians. At the end of his speech he wished successful lectures for every participant in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, at one of the most outstanding medical universities of the world.
The opening lecture, titled “Enzymes with anticancer properties: has anything changed in the last five years?”, of the Semmelweis Annual Scientific Conference was given by Dr. Vadim S. Pokrovsky, the leader of the Biochemical Department of People’s Friendship University and leader of Combinational Cancer Therapy Laboratory of Blokhin National Cancer Research Center in Moscow.
