Based on the recommendation and organisation of the Ministry of Human Capacities, a delegation representing the University of Damascus visited Semmelweis University. The Syrian delegation, led by Dr. Mohamad Hasan al-Kurdi, President of the University of Damascus consisted of Vice-President Dr. Amjad Zeno and Dr. Mohamad Kayyal, Director of International Relations.
The delegation was received by Dr. György Bagdy, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Péter Hermann, Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs, Dr. Marcel Pop, Director of International Relations and Dr. Judit Vadlövő, Project Coordinator.
The main objective of the Syrian delegation was to become familiar with the different study programmes at Semmelweis University and to get information on how Syrian students could enrol for the available courses.
“Currently there are 200,000 students studying at the University of Damascus. This number has drastically increased since the beginning of the civil war, because we have accommodated students from universities affected by the war, thus enabling them to continue their studies.”, the President said.
Dr. György Bagdy introduced the different programmes of Semmelweis University and informed the delegation about the language choices. On the other hand, Dr. Péter Hermann gave a detailed account of the admission procedures to undergraduate courses and to the School of Ph.D Studies.
Dr. Marcel Pop said that Semmelweis University occupies a prestigious position in research and in the Hungarian health care system, therefore there is an over enrolment each year, especially for the programmes at the Faculty of Medicine.
