An educational cooperation was signed by the Ministry of Human Capacities and Ghana, which gives the opportunity to 50 university students from the Republic of Ghana to study in Hungary. During their stay the delegation, led by the Ghanaian Deputy Minister for Education, visited several higher education institutions, including Semmelweis University with the aim of investigating future partnerships. Medicine is one of the priority areas as the physician-patient ratio in Ghana is extremely low.
The English and German programmes of Semmelweis University were introduced by Dr. Péter Hermann, Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs.
“Our university applies a very strict admission procedure because it is essential for us to receive talented and ambitious students who fulfil the requirements.”, he said.
Dr. Marcel Pop, Director of International Relations pointed out that almost all the faculties are running at full capacity.
“The Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Dentistry cannot accept any more applicants, however the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences might have some seats free.”, he said.
Besides the admission of students from Ghana, are other possibilities are offered by the Stipendium Hungaricum programme, such as cooperation on post-graduate level or off-campus programmes.
The delegation was also interested in Semmelweis University’s reputation in international rankings. Dr. Marcel Pop revealed that according to the latest Times Higher Education ranking Semmelweis University is among the world’s 200 most international universities.
