Dr. Ágoston Szél was appointed as Rector of Semmelweis University by János Áder, the President of the State. The Rector appointed the new Vice-Rectors as well; Dr. Ferenc Bánhidy, Deputy Director of the 2nd Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology was appointed acting Vice-Rector for General Affairs, Dr. György Bagdy, Director of the Department of Pharmacodynamics became acting Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs and Dr. Béla Merkely, the Director of the Heart and Vascular Centre was named acting Vice-Rector for Clinical Affairs. After his appointment as Vice-Rector for Educational Affair, Dr. Péter Hermann resigned from his position as Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry and was succeeded by Dr. Gábor Gerber, former Vice-Dean.
The term of Dr. Ágoston Szél’s office as Rector of Semmelweis University is from 1st July 2015 to 30th June 2018. Dr. Ágoston Szél’s previous mandate as Rector expired on 30th June 2015 and a tender for the selection of the new rector was published by the Ministry of Human Capacities. The Senate of Semmelweis University elected Dr. Ágoston Szél as candidate for the position on 28th May.
According to the Higher Education Act the proposal regarding the person of the new rector is handed over to the President of the State by the Secretary of State for Higher Education.
