Friedrich Faulhammer, rector of the Danube University Krems said that Wednesday had been a special day since as a relatively young university – established in 1994 – they appreciate the cooperation with the over 240 years old Semmelweis University. He expressed his hope that the signature of the memorandum means the commencement and strengthening of bilateral relations and research collaborations. According to their expectations the visit will result in closer ties and interinstitutional cooperation built upon the existing individual research collaborations.

Danube-university-krems-delegationThe negotiations surrounding the Memorandum of Understanding were preceded by the scientific collaboration between Dr. Michael Brainin, head of the Danube University Krems’ Department of Neurology and Dr. Dániel Bereczki, director of Semmelweis University’s Department of Neurology. Dr. Brainin, who is also the director of the Department of Clinical Medicine and Prevention at the Danube University Krems, contacted Dr. Mária Judit Molnár, vice-rector for scientific affairs in order to formalise the cooperation.

Dr. Zsombor Lacza also maintains a professional relationship with Dr. Stefan Nehrer, dean of the Faculty of Health and Medicine at the Danube University Krems. A new joint research project was launched in 2013 thanks to this collaboration with the support of the Austrian-Hungarian AKCIÓ Foundation.
